Ice Road Truckers!

IRT title

Now into it’s third season, the History Channels Docu-Drama “Ice Road Truckers” has been speeding
ahead to being one of the most entertaining shows on television. Due to the summer slump in programming,
Ice Road Truckers is a great reprieve after sitting through re-runs day after day.

The first two seasons of the show focused on 2 drivers, Hugh and Alex of the Canadian ice roads and their thoughts and
feelings on the job that they did. Other drivers were of course included, however, most of them did not return to the second or third season as History has changed which road they were filming.

In the first two seasons the road of ice was a body of water which had frozen for the winter months; this allowed Diamond and Oil companies to receive much needed supplies.

The Docu-Drama focuses on a dramatic story-telling with a dark twist. Around every corner there is danger and I feel the camera crews who follow along are waiting for a truck to go through the ice or fall off a cliff. Advertisements for the show include a dramatic edit to get the viewer to watch the next episode–causing edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting, passion, while awaiting for this terrible “thing” to happen to someone.

The current season, three, has a tag-line “A Job To Die For.” Well, they might be right!

Continuing in the adventures of Hugh and Alex, our heroes find themselves in Alaska on a road that is not a frozen body of water, but
a mountainous hell featuring a dirt road covered with a sheet of ice. There is one part at the end of the journey where they may or may not have to ride over a small body of water to the oil drilling site. However, the Roller Coaster roads are enough to make someone want to turn back.

There is a great “cast” of characters including Fearless Jack, Veteran George, Rookie Tim and Lisa–whom is probably the most
interesting driver of the season. The camera crew and editors are trying their best to make her “die”, but thankfully to no avail.

The old adage “a woman in a man’s world” is over-used way too much. Lisa has been doing the “death” road for over a year and knows what she’s doing.
Anyone can drive a truck as long as they have the right training and are skillful. As happy and carefree as Lisa is all the time, reality sets in often when the brakes don’t grip or the truck itself is going over into the other lane and there is nothing anyone can do about it.  However, she makes it to the end of her trip in one piece. It’s a good change to have a girl in a series ruled by guys.

Even in Her Second Year on the Ice, Lisa Still Thinks She Has A Lot to Prove.

“Ice Road Truckers” airs at 9pm on Sunday nights on the History channel, check your local listing to be sure. I recommend “Ice Road Truckers” to anyone who likes a good Docu-Drama.
