Isaac Florentine 13 Interview with Isaac Florentine (Director of Undisputed 3)

NERDSociety recently interviewed action director Isaac Florentine about his career and his latest flick, Undisputed 3. Undisputed 3 is easily the best direct to DVD movie in years and features some brutal, stylish fights, and solid storytelling. Undisputed 3 is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray everywhere (I got my copy at Target).

NERDSociety (NS): Isaac, please tell our readers about yourself. How did you get started in directing ? What about directing action movies in particular appeals to you.

Isaac Florentine (IF): I grew up in Israel in Tel Aviv, a vibrant city. From a young age I …

mysterious skin Under The Radar: 10 Must See Movies to Netflix Now

The summer blockbuster season is in full gear, but I thought I would take time to highlight 10 little-seen gems that you can get right now off Netflix. You’ll save money and find some terrific films if you use my list to fill your queue.

Mysterious Skin– My favorite director (Gregg Araki) and his best movie ever. Mysterious Skin is about two boys linked together by a horrible childhood trauma. At turns graphic, disturbing, yet filled with beauty and hope it’s one of the best films of the decade. Joseph Gordon Leavitt (no longer that kid from 3rd Rock from …

invisible target2 Blu Ray Review: Invisible Target

Invisible Target is a Hong Kong flick trying too hard to be serious for its own good.  Instead of focusing on the action, the filmmakers decided build depth behind the characters and it becomes 30 minutes too long.  The movie is about 3 cops who must team up to take down a band of mercenary robbers.  Director Benny Chan (New Police Story) tries to have a serious story but it doesn’t work because of the absurd but impressive action scenes.   Out of the 3 good guys, Nicholas Tse (The Promise) impressed me with the attitude he brought to his character.  He’s …

tai chi master Blu ray Review: Tai Chi Master

I remembered watching Tai Chi Master when it first came out on VCD, the quality sucked big time but I still enjoyed the film’s timeless action-scenes. Next to Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master is one of my favorite Jet Li films.

Jet Li plays a happy-go-lucky monk that ends up being kicked out of the temple due to misbehavior. Along with his best friend, they both ventured into the city, where an evil emperor took advantage of the poor. To make the story short, his greedy friend decides to join the bad guys; and is forced …

Kick-Ass 2 Will Focus On Villain Red Mist

Kick-Ass 2 Will Focus On Villain Red Mist

Kick Ass 1 Kick Ass 2 Will Focus On Villain Red Mist

In a recent interview with Totalfilm.com, Kick-Ass creator, Mark Millar talked about his plan for the franchise.

“I always had this planned as three volumes, and each is a sequel.  It’s not like a regular comic where it’s issue nine, 10 and 11. It’s Kick-Ass 2, Issue 1 sort of thing. It’s just starting where we left off last time.”

I never knew Millar planned to have a trilogy for Kick-Ass.  I thought it was going to be like his other work, Wanted, just a one shot mini series.

“Through success [he’s] inspired other people, and what the …

Blu-ray Review: Alexander

Blu-ray Review: Alexander

alexander bluray Blu ray Review: Alexander

From the theatrical version, I remembered Alexander as lacking and unimpressive. The film never conveyed why Alexander was such a great leader, I never understood his philosophies. Oh, how a Director’s Cut release can make so much difference. The Blu-ray version is the Director’s Cut, which I believe is the third version of the film. To me, this is the best version because it tells more of how Alexander became the great leader, he was shaped by both parents, whom disliked each other. His mother gave him the cunning ability to judge people, while his father gave him advice on …

Blu-ray Review – The Eclipse

Blu-ray Review – The Eclipse

eclipse Blu ray Review The Eclipse

No, not the one with the Vampires and Wolves. This Eclipse has to do with a struggling single father haunted by his wife’s death. Set in Ireland, the cinematography for this film is wonderful. But, the story is a bit dragging. The main character played by Ciaran Hinds is interesting, but the rest of the cast weighs down the film with their annoying personalities, especially Nicholas Holden played by Aidan Quinn. This is somewhat of a Horror film, but more so, it’s a film about human relationships. This film starts out great, but drags its way to the finish line.…

Warlords Blu Ray Review: The Warlords (Jet Li)

The Warlords is a violent period epic with fine acting and some awesome battles, yet the story is lacking and not engaging. The Warlords is not a bad movie, it just should have been more emotionally involving than it turned out to be. Three accomplished Asian stars Jet Li, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Andy Lau, take the lead in this epic action movie taking place during the brutal Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s. The battles scenes are epic in scope and strikingly violent, but in between action scenes, the dialogue and storytelling tend to fall flat.

The Warlords stars martial arts master …

thegodfatherpart1bluray Blu ray Review: The Godfather Coppola Restoration

The Godfather is about a power struggle between differing Mafia Families in the 1950s. Headed by Vito, the Corleone Family finds itself in a difficult position when Vito refused a request of favor from another crime Family. All hell broke lose, and in the midst of the chaos, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) emerged as the successor to take over the Family business. From father to son, Michael inherited his father’s wits and brutality, the “do what it takes” mentality to keep the Family on top of the food chain. The Godfather is 3 hours of goodness, with great …

Showgirls Blu ray Blu ray Review: Showgirls

Showgirls starts off with Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) making her way to Las Vegas. The unintentional comedy starts as she hitch-hikes, and picked up by an Elvis look-alike. She gets to Las Vegas, and realizes that everybody is as selfish as a 3-year old with a candy bar. She meets the right people, and finds herself in one of the biggest shows in Vegas.

When this movie first came out, I remembered the buzz due to its NC-17 rating. To top it off, it stars one of TVs most beloved characters, Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley) from Save …
