Blu-Ray Review: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring – Extended Edition 5-Disc Set

Blu-Ray Review: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring – Extended Edition 5-Disc Set

This Blu-Ray extended edition of the first installment from the Lord of the Rings trilogy was offered for the first time ever on August 28. The film has a huge cast of big names such as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Hugo Weaving. It also won four Oscars for Best visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Original Score.

Having seen the original several times, I was pleasantly surprised by all of the extra scenes included in this longer version of the film. I realize the original was pretty long itself, and yes, this version is …

Blu-ray Review: Butterfly Effect

Blu-ray Review: Butterfly Effect

butterfly Blu ray Review: Butterfly Effect

Ashton Kutcher from “That 70’s Show” fame plays a serious role in the time travel movie “Butterfly Effect.”  The result is a surprising emotional love story with a sci-fi backdrop.  The story reminds me of Twilight Zone episodes.  Kutcher is Evan, college student who had black outs when he was a kid.  He starts reading his journal and finds a way to time travel.  By traveling back to the past, he fixes the problems that he has in the present.  The coolest part of the story is that whatever he fixes in the past has an effect in the present.  So …

Blu-ray Review: Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Blu-ray Review: Jiro Dreams of Sushi

jiro dreams 01 Blu ray Review: Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a compelling documentary about a renowned sushi chef in Japan. His name is Sukiyabashi Jiro, and he is obsessed with perfecting the art of Sushi making. “There is always room for improvement.”

If you like Sushi, this documentary will make you hungry. The cinematography is very clean and precise, it seems to represent Jiro’s very disciplined lifestyle. The film does not only focus on Jiro himself, it also focuses on his sons, and the seafood merchants that Jiro works with. The quality of the seafood has to be premium to begin with. As shown in the …

Blu-ray Review: Spawn – Director’s Cut

Blu-ray Review: Spawn – Director’s Cut

spawn blu Blu ray Review: Spawn Directors Cut

Spawn isn’t an original character but what made the comic great was his attitude.  An African American super hero that was always super mad.  It was a big deal in the mid 90’s that a best selling comic had a black main character.  He uses big ass guns and kills bad guys without remorse.  Spawn has a living breathing cape that he can control. Eat your heart out Batman!  His arch nemesis is the Clown…another Bat influence.  Clown is a wise ass too like the joker but he actually turns into a scary monster if you don’t like his jokes.

Then …

Movie Review: The FP

Movie Review: The FP

The FP Cover Movie Review: The FP

The FP is a wacky little gem. An utterly ridiculous spoof of 80s movies where macho men from a near-future settle their differences over bouts of Beat Beat Revelation aka Dance Dance Revolution. It’s as fun and stupid as it sounds. The FP is one of those ready-made cult movies that some people will enjoy while others will scratch their heads in disbelief. Made on the cheap by The Trost Brothers (one of the brothers also stars in the movie), it’s a fun ride that pushes its one joke premise to the breaking point without totally sinking. A special mention must …

Blu-ray Review: Wrath Of The Titans

Blu-ray Review: Wrath Of The Titans

Wrath of the Titans 2 Blu ray Review: Wrath Of The Titans

A sequel to Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans is a slightly different animal. With a different director (Jonathan Liebesman) attached, Wrath feels a little less grandeur than its predecessor. The Gods are not as powerful, and exhibits more humanly weaknesses. But with a higher budget, Wrath is CG galore, and it’s amazing. The giant monsters are great, maybe not as great as the Kraken, but they are still awesomely gigantic. The acting is slightly better, and back in the sequel are the characters of Perseus (Sam Worthington), Zeus (Liam Neeson), and Hades (Ralph Fiennes).

The story takes place …

Avengers Blu-ray Trailer

Avengers Blu-ray Trailer

hulk MAIN 1449375a Avengers Blu ray Trailer

What the hell..a trailer for a home video release?  Actually, I’m just being over-dramatic.  Studios have been releasing trailers for their cash show video releases for awhile now.  20th Century Fox is a big fan of this.  I remember they released one for Star Wars and Avatar on blu-ray.

Now it’s Disney’s turn to hype up their biggest movie ever, The Avengers.  The blu-ray will come in 2 sets with the 2d and 3d versions and released Sept 25th.  The rumored director’s cut is just that…a rumor.  It won’t be included in this release.

Will Disney release a director’s cut in …

Blu-ray Review: Sherlock Holmes – Game Of Shadows

Blu-ray Review: Sherlock Holmes – Game Of Shadows

sherlock2 Blu ray Review: Sherlock Holmes Game Of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows is an interesting movie that goes overboard.  The whole team is back for the sequel including Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie (Snatch).  The story is actually pretty interesting because of the villain, Moriarty.  Just like Holmes, he’s really smart and a good fighter.  It’s cool watching the brainiacs interact because they try to outsmart each other.  The story is confusing but to make it short, Moriarty wants the world to go to war so he can be ultra RICH by selling ammunitions.  The movie is really nice to look at, especially …
