Dir en grey performed at the Wiltern this past Saturday on November 29, 2008. This was a night after Black Friday, the day I regretted sitting in my car overnight waiting for the doors to open at Circuit City. With little sleep and the cold weather, the sickness caught up to me. Plus I had to drive to Los Angeles with my girlfriend and two other buddies. I mean, one sneeze could do me in.

On behalf of Nerdsociety and Dr. Steel, we want to congratulate Melanie for winning the Dr. Steel DVD. We were overwhelmed with the amount of contestants that entered the contest and would like to thank everybody for participating. Long live Dr. Steel!

When you think of a global dictator, you think of a tyrant, who wants power and nothing else. Well, Doctor Steel wants to be a global dictator, but he isn’t a tyrant. He just wants the whole world to be one big happy place. That’s something we can all hope for. How will Dr. Steel accomplish his goal? By having his toy soldiers (fans) from all over the world, spread his word through his music.
Dr. Steel’s music is hard to describe. Think circus tunes, add a little bit of rock and metal and what you get is a tune that is unique and catchy. While most musicians promote themselves through mainstream advertising, Doctor Steel does it through his toy soldiers and the internet. To get a better understanding of Dr. Steel, we interviewed the mad musician:

Ah yes, here’s our Everlong music video of the Tentacle Brothers at E for All 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This is a montage of our trip to the event showcasing us playing Guitar Hero World Tour along with cameos by Walter Day, Steve Wiebe, and more.
Did you know? This video actually makes E for All look better than what it really is, teehee =D
Yeah, I’m late in the game but I just found this out after finishing up MGS4 (I didn’t want to spoil myself so I steered clear from anything Metal Gear related).
The video above shows the instrumental “The Snowstorm - Winter Road” by Sviridov. It is eerily similar to the Metal Gear Solid theme. This piece was created in ‘74, clearly way before when Metal Gear was created. The person responsible for the MGS theme is Tappy, back in ‘98 when the first Metal Gear Solid game came out (Harry Gregson-Williams only rearranged it for MGS2 and MGS3.)

Katy Perry’s radio-friendly smash hit “I Kissed a Girl” is the latest song to get on the annoying “pseudo-lesbian” gravy train. It’s really just a cynical product and it would be easy to dismiss it as such, but that would be selling the song short. As grating as the trend is, the song is a terrific piece of pop rock, as easy on the ears as the theme is grating and overused. “I Kissed a Girl” is one of the best songs out there on top 40 radio, but the rest of Perry’s CD does not live up to that song. It’s an uneven and mixed bag with too many producers and too many different sounds. It feels less coherent and cohesive than it should. Perry’s best strength is doing straight-forward and catchy pop rock tunes and the album is best when it sticks to that formula.

Welsh singer Duffy’s debut CD Rockferry is easily one of the best CDs of the year so far. It’s soulful and catchy and should appeal to a wide variety of music fans. It’s clear-eyed genuine pop music at its best. Duffy’s voice will remind many of Amy Winehouse, but perhaps not as edgy or gritty as Ms Winehouse’s. There’s more of sweetness to Duffy’s vocals. The standout track is the hit “Mercy” which I first heard on Smallville and on VH1. It’s an instantly catchy, melodic treat, like much of the rest of the album.
