Transformers: More Years Than Meets The Eye!

Transformers: More Years Than Meets The Eye!

Hey readers, what’s up?! With the new movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming out just around the corner, I have a few fun tidbits that I think would interest you.

In the early to mid 70’s in Japan they had a line called Diaclone which featured a plethora of figures that people who grew up in the 80’s hold dear to them.

Here is Diaclone Convoy (Optimus Prime), looks the same except for the obvious graphic on the side of his trailer and Rollar having some riders (I would like to thank AUTOCON for having the picture).

Enter into the …

kamen rider Action Figure Review: Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Toy Line

Bandai recently released a full line of Kamen Rider figures which are currently available in stores. The figures are based on the CW4Kids show Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, currently airing on Saturday mornings. I have seen the figures at Toys R Us and at toysrus.com.

Bandai was kind enough to send me 3 figures as a part of their line to review.

Kamen Rider 4 inch figures (retail price 7.99): I received Camo from this selection of figures and its my favorite pick for kids. The articulation is very good and all the joints move for poseable action. They come …

Action Figure Review: ShadowHawk

Action Figure Review: ShadowHawk

 Action Figure Review: ShadowHawk
Shocker Toys
is the latest company to enter the action figure industry.  The company is focusing on making comic book figures from independent titles such as Maxx and Kabuki.  In the back of the package, it states that the company works closely with the comic book creators to create a figure that truly represent the characters.  I got Shadowhawk and below is the review.

Packaging:

Package is compact and small for the 6 inch figure.  So if you’re a MOC collector, you’ll be happy to save space with this figure.  I also like how you can just slide the …

 BotCon 09 Recap

Another weekend, another convention.  This time it was for BotCon 09, the official Transformers convention held in Pasadena, CA.  This was my first BotCon experience and I really enjoyed it.

Saturday:

We arrived at the Pasadena Convention Center around 1:30 and grabbed a quick bite at Rubio’s Mexican Grill across the street (the taco burger was great). As we were heading back to the convention, we noticed several Transformer’s standees in the shopping center. We took a picture with the standees and a Hasbro employee gave us a Decepticon promo piece that we can …

Accidental Transformers 2 Haulage

Accidental Transformers 2 Haulage

 Accidental Transformers 2 Haulage

I was playing basketball with friends for a good two hours.  Afterwards we ate a Mexican restaurant where the talk turned geeky.  We talked about upcoming movies we were excited to watch as well as action figures, specifically Mighty Muggs.  We shared which Muggs’ we had, as well as the ones we wanted to get.  We all decided to go on a Mighty Muggs hunt at a local Wal Mart, which opened 24 hours.

So we go to Wal Mart and go directly to the toy section.  We noticed about 5 people waiting by the action figure line.  What the hell …

Vintage Toy Of The Week: M.A.S.K.

This week’s vintage toys comes from our long time reader, Paladin.  These M.A.S.K. toys aren’t from the Jim Carrey movie.  The toys are based on a cartoon show made in 1985 by Kenner.  M.A.S.K. stands for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand.  The line is similar to Transformers with transforming licensed vehicles from Chevrolet and Nissan.

Before the transformation

Led by Matt Trakker, the good guys battle V.E.N.O.M. (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem).  These two groups love using acronyms and they also like to fight each other, usually introducing new characters each episode so they can sell more toys.  Just like most 80’s …

Hobbit-looking Optimus Prime Toy with Maze Navigation Power!

robo q optimus prime 620x411 Hobbit looking Optimus Prime Toy with Maze Navigation Power!

The nerds over at crunchgear.com has got a look at some new Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen toys. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are transformed into Robo-Q toys. Robo-Q, made by Takara Tomy, are the smallest, lightweight, 2-legged toys available. They can even navigate through a maze using infrared sensors. The crappy thing about them is that you have to charge them for 30 minutes just to have them move for 5 minutes.

These little dudes will only be available in Japan in May. Yeah, sucks to be over here in the states, that’s why I’ll be playing with my Generation …

Michaelbay.com today has posted up footage from ShoWest 2009 but it’s locked. So here’s the TrailerAddict version for you to enjoy. The beginning shows Sam telling Bumblebee that he wants to move on and go to college, but Bumblebee gets all teary-eyed. Years later and he’s still having voice problems? I guess Michael Bay really doesn’t want him to talk.

We also have more quick glimpses for the rest of the movie including a gang …

Vintage Toy Of The Week: Toy Biz Robin

Vintage Toy Of The Week: Toy Biz Robin

This Toy Biz Robin came out in 1989. It looks like it’s based from the old Batman TV show because his hair is well groomed. For some reason, Robin is wearing an underwear made out of scales.

This toy is pretty beat up. I can’t find his cape and his karate chop action feature doesn’t work anymore. I still like the figure because it looks so damn old and brings back memory of the old Batman TV show.

Vintage Toy Of The Week: Ghostbusters Highway Haunter

One reason why I love the toys in the 80’s is the creativity. Highway Haunter looks like a regular Volkswagen Beetle at first. Press a couple of buttons and it transforms into a big ass praying mantis.

The wheels really work and you can play with it as a regular car or as a monster. Right now I have Peter riding the car with his date.  They’re in for a surprise.

You can check out more pictures of the Highway Haunter and other vintage toys in our photo gallery.
