2008 was a pretty good year us nerds. More comic books were turned into movies and for the most part, they were pretty good. The high def war finally ended with Blu-ray knocking out HD and consumers finally had the confidence to go Blu. Last but not least, video games are more popular than ever. Here’s our look at the best and worst of ‘08.

How fitting that this Resident Evil movie is called Degeneration, because that’s what I think about the CG animation in this movie. Fans of the game will enjoy this, but the CG animation and the voice acting really put a damper in a movie that’s just another rehash of an “unknown infestation spreads while our heroes have to stop the evil corporation” storyline; only this time, it starts out at an airport. Didn’t I see this in Flight of the Living Dead?

While Call of Duty 4 was set in present day, Activision decided to go back to the Word War 2 era for its 5th installment. While the games has some flaws, I must say I was surprised how much I enjoyed the game. More after the jump.

The Xbox 360 is turning out to be a mess. There’s several problems with the console: red ring of death, noisy fan, maps not loading. Now, the latest known problem: scratching DVD games and movies. Most of you are aware that I had to return my 360 four times before finally getting one that was working properly.
I’ve read on message boards before that there 360’s were scratching games and movies but never thought much about it. Now there’s a lawsuit from a person who is suing MS for scratching his DVD’s. His attorney said that MS already knew about the problem before launching the system but decided to ignore it. You can read the detail report here.

The zombie survival genre got a redefined take, with help of an outdated engine. Left 4 dead is Valve’s (owners of half life and team Fortress series) new FPS. With new features, the blend of two very dated genres come together to make a concoction of straight up, shoot em up, mayhem, goodness. Hit the jump button for more.

Tomb Raider: Underworld is the third Tomb Raider game by Crystal Dynamics. They’ve made Tomb Raider fun to play again with Legends. The biggest change that Crystal Dynamics did was the way you controlled Lara. She moves more freely than ever before.
Just a few days after the launch of NXE for Xbox 360, a few chosen ones, like around 100,000 PS3 users, had a chance to test out Playstation ® Home Beta Version 1.0 Friday afternoon. I was a little excited but didn’t expect much since it was a beta. The file download is really small.

The new Xbox 360 dashboard came out yesterday and it sucks. The only cool part is the free Netflix movies on HD.

“It’s the best, most complete game I’ve ever worked on.” - Peter Molyneux, Fable Mastermind
God I love Peter Molyneux. A month and a half before the game was released, Peter had a chance to play and review his own game. He said, “I’d rate it a 9 out of 10.” But we all know that Peter likes to hype his games up. Now that I have finished playing Fable II, I’d have to disagree with him.
