Batman looks cool but the bad guy wasn’t the one I was hoping for.  Love the colors though.

I had a hard time figuring out who this because it’s missing some details but just pay attention to the colors and you’ll find out who he is.  I think the villain might even look more obvious that our hero.

This is a pretty damn good design.  You can tell right away it’s Luke.  Pay attention the shadows and you’ll see the masked villain.

You can order the prints here.  They’re a bit pricey and shipping is around $10 but these posters would make unique collectibles.

Rutger Hauer, the actor best known for playing the Replicant leader in Blade Runner is coming back with a vengeance.  This is a weird ass trailer that takes you for a ride:

Just like Machete, Hobo With A Shotgun started out as a “fake” trailer back in 2007 by Jason Eisner and attached to some Grindhouse prints. Eisner described how it became a movie, “This teaser was first created as a sizzle reel for producers and distributors. It was designed to give everyone an idea of what Hobo would look, sound and feel like. It got such a great reaction from everyone that we decided there was no way we should hide this from you guys.”

The movie comes out in 2011.

Machete is getting a strong 71% at Rottentomatoes.  The movie is based on a fake trailer that was seen in the first “grindhouse” films, Death Proof and Planet Terror.  This movie is intentionally cheesy and stars Danny Trejo as an assassin double crossed by the government.  USA Today describes the movie that ”combines sharp satire and timely political commentary with a decidedly B-movie ethos.”

The rom-com, Going The Distance is hoping to counter the violent Machete and hoping for an upset at the box office.  I’m not a big fan of Justin Long and Drew Barrymore needs to stop doing these movies.  The movie is getting a mediocre 48% rating and Beliefnet actually enjoyed the movie “The best news about the script is that it avoids the usual rom-com staples of misunderstandings and incompetence” while Movieline disagreed “The conflict is unsatisfying and its resolution moot.”

Last but not least, we have the drama thriller, The American.  George Clooney stars as an assassin who endangers his mission because of a girl he falls for.  The trailer looked boring to me unlike the interesting trailer for Up In The Air.  The movie is getting a good 60% score.  Most of Clooney’s movies usually get above average rating so this is no surprise.  Dallas Morning News reviewed it and said “This is Serious Clooney, starring in a deliberative film that could have sprung from mid-’60s France or Italy.”

I really want Machete to be a hit but September movies usually don’t make a lot of money.  We’ll find out after the long weekend, which one will be number one.

It wasn’t just a Power Ranger convention, the cast and crew of Kamen Rider was also there signing autographs and mingling with the fans. I really enjoyed seeing celebrities taking their time and signing autographs for FREE. It’s an amazing show of appreciation for the fans that made the celebs who they are.

Retro Outlaw

We’ll be reviewing some shirts from Retro Outlaw, so stay tuned!!!

Black Rock Shooter is packaged in a great picture box with images of the figure on most of the sides.

The back of the box features some info in Japanese and pictures of some poses that the figure can be set in (these pictures help to give ideas and start you off, there must be hundreds or thousands of poses that the figure can take).

Opening the package reveals a secure set up of an easily opened “nest” for the figure and accessories. Black Rock Shooter includes the figure of the character with plastic “protection” embedded with-in the figures joints, simply tear it away by pulling it apart and not pulling it on one side and putting pressure on the ball joints, (don’t worry, its not so fragile that it’ll break apart, just be gentle).

The figure will appear as a highly detailed statue as mentioned before with her coat painted in a glossy black resembling vinyl as is the rest of her outfit of little shorts and a string bikini top. The stomach has 2 detailed scars and the hair is 2-toned in black and blue.
There are 3 faces included that take a little thought to switch out, after removing the hair (her bangs) which can be switched with the blue flaming eye, addition, the face pulls away. The first face is a gentle look with her mouth closed and soft well-detailed eyes. The second face is more of a “battle cry” with her mouth open and her detailed eyes in a focused and intense manner. The third face has her eyes closed and that is the “Magical Girl Anime” face as I’d call it.

Black Rock Shooter comes with a lot of hands! There is actually a “tree” that holds all but the 2 she is using at the moment. There are matching pairs of each, some opened and some for gripping—others are closed fists. The gripping hands are specific for the gun and the sword, but they can be used vice-versa.

Two stands are included, one to hold her by pegging through a hole in her back and one to hold the gun that includes a collar. Both stands are fully adjustable, just don’t lean them forward too much or there will be a tip-over.

The weapons include a sword called the “Black Blade” and a huge, over the top gun called the “Rock Cannon”–which all 4’11” girls need! The cannon is longer than the figure is tall and is detailed pretty well. If you look down the barrel, you’ll see the detail of where the blast would come out as being a smaller hole than what is showing on the surface. The sword has great detail down to the wrapping of the handle and the two tones of the single edge.

Other odds and ends that Black Rock Shooter comes with are 2 metal chains which wrap great around the cannon and you can basically tie her up too—oh those Japanese and their bondage games!

A 50 minute DVD is included which is the OVA of the Anime Black Rock Shooter which has beautiful animation and music—hail the all-region DVD player!

Black Rock Shooter is probably one of the top 5 of my action figure collection, the long wait, the delays and the fact that I bought 2 (one to keep packaged and one to open) make it all worth while. The website where I bought it from doesn’t seem to have it anymore.

As for how I rate Black Rock Shooter. So no one thinks I’m being biased I’ll explain. The detail tops just about any figure on the market including everyone’s beloved Hot Toys and McFarlane toys—this should piss some people off, hee, hee…
Also, the amount of articulation is just over the top, if you get bored of the way she is posed, you can choose an almost endless array of poses to make a new statue.
She’s not just a statue, she is an action figure—however, for the price, I wouldn’t play with it too much or give it to kids—or open it, or breath around it…

So enough of that banter, I give Black Rock Shooter…

Black Rock Shooter: Sexy Anime Style At It’s Best! – Latest Nerdy Pop Culture News – NERDSociety.com

It was supposed to be an original proposal. But someone entered a line from the most recent installment of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga which came out last June. According to the Anime News Network, a travel pass worth the equivalent of $1,200. was up for grabs, all someone had to do was come up with the best marriage proposal. The contest was called “Words to Propose Marriage” and was held by the Ishigami-no-Oka Museum of Art.  Shortly after the winning entry was announced on the radio, calls began pouring in that the line was not original but was, in fact, taken from the popular manga.  The Iwate town board of education in Northern Japan then disqualified the winning entry and rejudged the contest.

So what was this incredibly romantic line from Fullmetal Alchemist?  ”Ore no jinsei hanbun yaru kara omae no jinsei hanbun kure.” (“I’ll give you half of my life so give me half of yours.”)  It’s definitely romantic but a little on the demanding side, if you ask me…

The design is obviously from Jim Lee.  Don’t remember her showing that much cleavage though.

Snoop Dogg has teamed up with Norton to stop phishing, hacking, malware and virus attacks.  They want you to participate in the fight by submitting a 2 minute rap video online at hackiswhack.com.  The winner will be chosen on Oct 20, 2010, based on the lyrics and the style.  The winner will meet Snoop in L.A. for 2 nights and hang out with him. 

Many people think Snoop  is just a rapper but he’s actually pretty smart.  He led his son’s football team to 2 straight championships, made a $20,000  bet against UFC President Dana White when Lakers were playing Boston in the finals.  Snoop won off course and the money went to the football team.  And of course, he’s been in several movies including Training Day and Bones.

So if you think you can rap about malwares and viruses, make sure to submit a video.

The heroes who stand around Chinese Mann’s Theatre in Hollywood Blvd waiting for photo ops, filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles.  The lawsuit claims that the super heroes are being unfairly targeted by the cops.  The city is arguing that they consider the masked men and women as aggressive panhandlers that causes tense situation for the tourists.  I see these cosplayers everytime I go to the Kodak Theatre and they do ask for money for every photo op.  While most of them are cool, some are sneaky and ask for money after the picture is taken.  There are other street performers in that area and they don’t get arrested but it’s because they don’t aggressively ask for money.  They just have a bucket where people can donate.

Yesterday, superheroes like the White Ranger and Batman were demonstrating outside the LA courthouse demonstrating the unfair treatment.  The LAPD claims it just wants the area to be tourist friendly and they’ll arrest anymore who is overly aggressive when it comes to donations, not just the superheroes.

For the first week of September, our featured cosplayer is Kara.  Kara has been cosplaying for 8 years so she is a seasoned veteran.  Let’s find out why she likes the experience so much…

NS: How did you get started in cosplaying?

Kara: Like most Otakus, I went to my local comic book shop, Atomic Comics. They started holding these “animefests” that I would join, plenty of people others in dressed up and we hang out the whole night.

How many costumes do you wear per convention?

I normally try to have at least two costumes per convention. Now a days, I use the last day of the convention to just kind of relax, haha.

When was your first Anime Expo experience?

My very first AX was back in 2006. My family was going on vacation at the time, and I decided to go to AX instead of Disneyland, haha. Being from Arizona, where the cons were still pretty small at the time, Expo was a bit intimidating my first time. That and the fact that I had gone alone without knowing anyone. But for the two days that I attended, I had alot of fun :]

How do you choose your character?

I try not to make my cosplaying list to big, but there are just so many characters I love to be from different shows. But there are times where I cosplay the same character in different outfits. But I seem to always pick characters with pink hair, haha.

What attracts you to cosplaying?

My mother’s side of the family is Japanese, so I’ve always been very interested in the culture. Like most kids watching cartoons, I wish I could be certain characters. Or wishing that Pokemon’s were real, it just takes to you a different reality. So for me, by dressing up as a certain character, it takes me to an amazing different world.

What’s your favorite moment?

Hmmmm, I don’t think i could possibly pin point a particular moment… But I have to say that my favorite part about cosplaying is meeting all the other cosplayers. When dressing as a character from a popular new series, there’s bound to be other cosplayers from the same show, just from that connection alone. It gives you a chance to talk with the other people and make a new friend. :]

Have you ever crossplayed?

I have to admit, I crossplayed once. XD I was another one of those L cosplayers back in the day. At a con, a bunch of girls all glomped me, I can say, that I haven’t crossplayed since, hahaha.

Do you make your own costumes?

I am the type that really loves to see all the details in a costume, so I normally make my own. But there are a few that I have purchased over this last year. I can say it’s a lot easier at times, though it’s not cheap. You do save alot of time with the alterations compared to making the whole thing yourself, haha.

What are your other hobbies?

Outside of cosplay, you’ll find that I’m like any other person around my age. I love to use photography to view the world, and music can really speak my thoughts. In school I’m an animation student, and like to keep up with my friends. Besides sewing costumes all the time, I am very inspired by Japanese fashion and sewing my own outfits.

One last question, which one is your favorite character to dress up as?

I really enjoy cosplaying Bloody Euphemia, she’s a fun character with a sad ending. Plus i get to be covered in blood, and carried around by Suzaku hahaha.

Ultimo Lingerie

In another amusement park news, lingerie company Ultimo took its finest models to UK amusement park, Alton Towers (think Six Flags but better scenery). 

The purpose?  To see how durable their bras are.  Of course they could have worn shirts but Ultimo wisely decided to just let the models go in their underoos.

The result was a rising success as none of the bras broke, the two companies I’ve never heard of  before got exposure  and viewers like us got to see the “thrill” of the rides.

How come Victoria’s Secret doesn’t have tests like these in the U.S.?

Disney has released a preview for the new Star Tours ride coming out in 2011.  The preview has the same cheesy theme from the old Star Tours “ad” that you see as you’re waiting to get on the ride.  I don’t mind that, can’t forget your roots.  Here’s the trailer:

So in the trailer, you see the Cloud City, Endor and Alderaan.  I doubt you’ll be visiting all of it because Alderaan gets blown up by the Death Star in New Hope.   There’s also rumors that it will include a pod-race from Episode 1.

 The new Stars Tours will be in 3-D and no specific date has been announced for the opening.

As old as this ride is, it’s still fun.  Too bad it closed this year on July 27.

So I was browsing bigbadtoystore.com when I came upon the Machete figure.  There’s no specific date but it’s scheduled to be released sometime in October and retails for $14.99.  From the picture, he seems to have two machetes and small knives on his vest that can’t be removed.  The movie comes out this Friday, 9/3/2010 and so far it’s been getting mixed reviews.  

Either way, I’ll buy this figure just because it’s Danny Trejo.  This is the dude who played the rapist in Con Air, the voice of Umberto Robina in GTA: Vice City and one of Robert DeNiro’s crew in Heat.  One of the real badass in Hollywood!
