Recently Anime Expo announced to their many loyal attendees that they will be charging extra for the previously free shuttle pass. Luckily for us, everyone decided to leave the AX Block Hotels and move to closer, and overall, cheaper hotels. With the crazy amount of backlash from the AX Community, Anime Expo decided to one-up their own last years policy by providing free shuttle passes to all 4 day attendees. Complimentary. At no extra cost. I guess the AX Community can say they won the battle but not the war.

For more information, shuttle routes, and complete pricing for the …

Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Ca is in full swing with it’s first day of panels, events and merch finishing up.

Just ’cause the panels and main hall are closed doesn’t mean you have to go home, however.  There’s all kinds of after hours entertainment like karaoke, tabletop gaming, video screenings, all
ages dance, and more continuing through the night.

I am looking forward to Hatsune Miku show, which will be her debut on an American stage – or should I say screen.  This blue-green haired, pixel maiden will be quite the event, she is sure to be the object of …

Book Review: Yakuza Moon by Shoko Tendo

YakuzaMoon Book Review: Yakuza Moon by Shoko Tendo

It’s books like this one that make me wish I could read Japanese fluently. But the English translation of Yakuza Moon does a great job of conveying that same spirituality and connection to nature that the Japanese language does so well, making it a pleasurable read regardless.

Yakuza Moon is the true story of Shoko Tendo, the daughter of a Yakuza gangster. The aspect of her story, that she is abused, is crucial to the path that she takes in this book. And what a path it is. Not only does she endure abuse from her father but from bullies at …

AKB48: The Massive Graduation Special.

The new WordPress is trash, so enjoy the gallery above; each person in the photo is captioned to go with the information below.  To stop the gallery, just click one of the arrows.  You leave for 6 months and come back to what?

Hi, remember me? I’m Paladin, I’ll tell Editor Kuno to change it to Dark Paladin or Black Paladin—I am trying to return, but medically, every keyboard stroke hurts, I’ll suffer though because all I ever cared about was entertaining the readers.

For those who don’t know or don’t remember my previous articles, AKB48 is a Japanese Idol group …

To Reboot or not to Reboot, That is the Question

To Reboot or not to Reboot, That is the Question

Have you noticed how many comic reboots there are these days?  It makes sense from a financial standpoint, considering the current state of the economy. Much to the frustration of viewers hungry for something original – the film industry, and now even television – are putting their money behind sure things these days, and we can’t totally blame them.

We are now experiencing a fourth incarnation of Spiderman? But if you think about it, the character is aimed at a particular audience who, for many of them after a certain period of time, will grow up and move on to other

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Record-Breaking Blockbuster AND New-Age Psychology Resource?

poster Star Wars: The Force Awakens Record Breaking Blockbuster AND New Age Psychology Resource?

We all know that this is an amazing film (and if you don’t then damn it see this movie ASAP, and on the IMAX if you still can!), and not since Empire Strikes Back have we been blessed with a truly great SW film that any age and gender can appreciate.  But could it be that J.J. Abrams could create the greatest movie in history, and that movie could also be the perfect tool to rehabilitate a troubled psyche, and bring together mother and son where no therapist, psychologist or family member could do?

So I was talking to a friend …

Interview with Cartoonist Lonnie Millsap!

Interview with Cartoonist Lonnie Millsap!

Humor comes in many forms and today, with the advent of the internet, the expression of humor has been transformed into  snappy one-liners on Twitter and memes. Back in the day, the Far Side by Gary Larson was a groundbreaking single-panel cartoon that expressed a similar type of cynicism and tongue-in-cheek view of society, the animal kingdom and the world at large. I met an artist at a con once whose humor harkens back to the work of Gary Larsen but goes even farther pushing the envelope of the bizarre.

If you’re a frequenter of cons, you might have come …

Final MOTUC: Prahvus, Son Of He-Man and Laser Power He-Man With Laser Light Skeletor!

Final MOTUC: Prahvus, Son Of He-Man and Laser Power He-Man With Laser Light Skeletor!

All things must come to an end, and for the first time I am happy that this toy line finally did. Mattel can make figures here and there, but it is done…so much misinformation this year.

The final figures of Masters of the Universe Classics actually do not disappoint—there are negatives as usual; maybe if I was a fanatic my story would be told in a different way; but what people need to understand is, I have 30 years of MOTU in my veins and I am critical of what Mattel destroys, changes and even does right. I would never just …

Short Film Review: Nickel Children (2010)

Short Film Review: Nickel Children (2010)

nickle children Short Film Review: Nickel Children (2010)

For those not familiar with Steampunk, it is generally considered to be a sci-fi genre having its roots in the steam-powered technology of the late 19th century. The most easily identifiable features of Steampunk include brass, pully-type mechanisms, a lot of leather and goggles, and cannister type objects which might facilitate steam power. Calling Steampunk science fiction might seem to be a contradiction since sci-fi usually takes place in the future but the genre actually has more of a fantasy angle as it can really take place in any era. While it is steadily gaining popularity, Steampunk is still a sub-culture …
