AKB48: A Musical Collection! Part 2.

AKB48: A Musical Collection! Part 2.

In part one I introduced the Japanese Idol group AKB48 through a few photos and many CD’s; I’ll continue now with another aspect of the group.

Akihabara48 began branching out into different cities in Japan, but also with a very different show. SDN48 was a group of the…shall I say, older girls who put on a show on Saturday nights at the theater in Akihabara. The show was 18+ because of Megumi Ohori who was a living sexual desire! Of course I’m joking just a little. Megumi was one of the most interesting members of the group, she was part of …

AKB48: A Musical Collection! Part 1.

AKB48: A Musical Collection! Part 1.

The word “Idol” gets used a lot without the actual definition of what it means. People just assume its some singer that everyone likes—well, not “everyone” likes them just because the press says so.

An Idol is a singer, an actor, a model…an entertainer—most of the time the word is associated with a pretty female; however, it’s used with males too.

Let’s take a look at what Idol means to ME.

In the photo below, you might be able to call this line up a good part of the popularity generation?  Left to right; Jurina, Mariko, Tomomi, Yuko, Mayu, Atsuko, Minami …

Cosplay Interview with Avant-Geek!

Cosplay Interview with Avant-Geek!

NS:  Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today. Your costumes are amazing.  When did you first start cosplaying and how did you get into it?
Avant-Geek: I started cosplaying before I knew the term for it. I was twelve and my family was hosting a costume party. I decided to make my own Legend of Zelda‘s Link tunic out of a green pillowcase. It’s pretty embarrassing to look at now, but we all have to start somewhere.
NS: What were some of your early costumes?
Avant-Geek:  Along with pillowcase Link, my earliest costumes

Film Review: The Machine (2013)

Film Review: The Machine (2013)

The Machine Movie Film Review: The Machine (2013)

The Machine is a British sci-fi film starring Caity Lotz (who played Black Canary on Arrow) as Ava and Toby Stephens as Vincent, a doctor in some futuristic government operation that creates android soldiers. Vincent finds an up and coming scientist in Ava who creates a robotic brain that is so self-aware, Vincent hires Ava on the spot and so begins the android’s journey.

The Good:

The Machine is obviously fairly low-budget but manages to hide it pretty well. The CG effects are decent but luckily the script doesn’t call for much. The outdoor city scenes are reminiscent of Blade

Masters of the Universe Classics: August- NA Skeletor & Flutterina

Discussing the August releases from Masters of the Universe Classics in September continues with two looks at very different figures. The usual spiel goes on and on, he comes on the regular card. He actually fills the card up rather well. This is a bulky Skeletor. Mattel even managed to throw in an extra surprise, which will be discussed in a bit. The Space …

A look at dystopian films

A look at dystopian films

Aug. 15  saw the release of  the movie The Giver, based on Lois Lowry`s  young adult novel about a “perfect” society with a dark secret.  Much like zombies, films and books with a dystopian  theme  seem to be making a major comeback in recent years.   According to the Oxford online dictionary, a dystopia is defined as an “imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one.”   Here is a rundown of several quality and influential movie dystopias.

1. Metropolis ( 1927).  This  German silent film classic  is about a future society …
