Let’s face it, 2007 was the year of uninspired movies. Most movies were forgettable and too many dull third installments were released. 2008 seems to change that with franchises coming back in full force and some fresh original movies. Below are the top 10 anticipated movies in 08.

10) Cloverfield – This movie probably won’t be as bad and overhyped as Blair Witch Project. With J.J. Abrams involvement in the project, I expect this to be an intelligent, thought provoking monster movie. Let’s hope the crew learned the mistakes from the American produced Godzilla.

9) Wall-E – I have to admit, I’ve been bored with Pixar’s recent releases. Formula for their movie is becoming too obvious: Character faces a problem. Problem solved with unity. While it is a good message, it is becoming too cliched. Wall-E will hopefully change that formula. It reminds me of Short Circuit and that’s good enough to be on the list.

8 ) Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – I thought the first one was entertaining and had enough creativity to make it an interesting film. The sequel returns with the main characters returning to Narnia to help out a prince. Battle scenes has potential to be epic.

7) Valkyrie – Tom Cruise and director Bryan Singer team up to show us the secret coup against Adolf Hitler. Movie seems to be very dark, I hope this movie won’t have a Hollywood ending.

6) Hellboy 2 – Hopefully, this won’t make the sam mistake as the first one: first 2/3’s of the movie was excellent, last 1/3 was boring. This sequel seems to have better special effects and very cool looking villains: evil elves.

5) X-Files 2- Movie is supposed to be released this year but I still haven’t seen any marketing for it. Fox is keeping a tight lip on this project. I was a big X-Files fan before creator Chris Carter lost his creativity and went in the wrong direction. Hopefully, he’ll redeem himself and give us a story worth investigating for Mulder and Scully.

4) The Happening – After making the turd, Lady In The Water, M. Night Shyamalan gives us a movie about environmental crisis. This is what Shyamalan is good at: a serious, adult-oriented, mysterious story.

No trailer has been released.

3) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – I don’t care if Indy is already a senior citizen, I’m happy we are finally getting another installment. What makes the franchise great is the comedy, interesting locations and the very creative treasure hunts.

No trailer has been released.

2) Body of Lies – Director Ridley Scott and William Monahan(Kingdom of Heaven) team up for the second time and gives us a political drama about the CIA and its fight against terrorism. Scott is my favorite director and everytime he releases a movie, I’m always interested in it. Yes, even Matchstick Men

No trailer has been released.

1 ) Dark Knight – Everyone loved the first movie and I hope the sequel will be no different. Heath Ledger’s Joker seems to be a combination of Nicholson’s Joker and the comic book version. I hope he portrays more of the latter. After Batman Begins, I have 100% faith in Christopher Nolan to deliver an altered but true Batman story.
