Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept- Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

…So, what happened to the August figure you might ask? There wasn’t one… So here we go, the September figures are in and here is what we have.

Dragon Blaster Skeletor is just awesome, he was probably one of my favorites growing up and I had him a few times because I guess I used him in play too much.

Packaged, Dragon Blaster Skeletor looks kind of messy, but I didn’t leave him on the card for long.

Dragon Blaster Skeletor has a great piece of armor that is pretty much like the original 80’s figure. The forearms and lower legs have a new sculpt featuring more paint and more detail—the new sculpt is nice, but I like the sculpt from the first figure because he handles the Alcala appearance better—but, that is my preference.
Dragon Blaster Skeletor comes with his purple Power Sword and the Dragon.

The original figure featured the dragon on his back; however the dragon could shoot water from his mouth just like Kobra Khan. The Classics figure is simply detailed and the head is on a ball joint like the heads of the action figures (they can be swapped). The dragon is removable from Skeletor’s armor, but it can’t be posed and the chain is attached with “jump rings” and cannot be removed without pliers.

The back of the card has an “Also Available” and his stupid bio where he is a wiener because Hordak and King Hsss are the main characters and Skeletor doesn’t stand a chance against them—yeah right.

This figure also includes part 3 of the 3 part comic series. Once again, this comic has great artwork, but the story is just horrible; this one was really rushed and its just boring, I’m so glad its over, I can’t read that kind of crap anymore—thankfully I have the original mini comics and if I read King of Castle Grayskull or He-Man and the Power Sword after that trash I feel better…!

DB Skel 6 1024x581 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

Dragon Blaster Skeletor stands front and center to lead his warriors against He-Man!

GRADE: A- (Great figure, but the dragon not having some other form of articulation besides the head, kind of sucks).

Mekaneck is probably the most awaited figure because he was not only a great character, but also one of the original favorites.
The 80’s version of the figure could turn at the waist and his neck would rise as his action feature.

Mek 1 702x1024 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

This new Mekaneck has just about the same sculpt as the original, however he comes with 2 neck pieces. To make Mekaneck into a periscope his head is simply removed from the ball joint and then either one or both of the neck pieces can then be attached to the main ball joint. His head is then attached to the neck piece and it can be posed within the limit of the ball joint that his body and both neck pieces possess.  Both neck pieces can be attached together to give him a very long reach that is articulated.
Mekaneck comes with his classic yellow club and removable armor which he shares with Stinkor.

Mek 2 799x1024 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

The back of the box features an “Also Available” and his bio which isn’t all that bad.

GRADE: A (Just a great figure, sorry I didn’t open the package, but I think Mek is a figure I want to keep sealed especially with all of the paint issues that this years figures have).

The Snake Men 2 pack; these yellowish snake soldiers feature great sculpts and a bunch of accessories to not only arm them for battle by the side of King Hssss but they also have interchangeable heads.

Snake M 1 1024x709 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

Featuring a curvy sword, club, shield and a spear, these snake men can be set up to a person’s imagination.

Snake M 2 1024x768 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

The back of the box features an “Also Available” and a simple, generalized bio on the characters—the Snake Men are simply an army builder if you are into that.

Snake M 3 1024x717 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Sept Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Mekaneck And The Snake Men!

GRADE: B (The sculpts are nice, but I’m probably going to try and sell them because I have no need for characters that were made up when there are so many characters who have yet to be put on the market).

This month’s selection was both good and bad with the long awaited arrival of Mekaneck and the variant of Dragon Blaster Skeletor being a pair of nice figures for the collection and the Snake Men just costing me what two cool figures would have been. It’s a real shame, but what can you do when you are at the mercy of a subscription.

Next month Miss M joins me in reviewing Frosta and Rattler, so check that out in October—I promise, they will both be loose for your viewing pleasure.
