2008 was a pretty good year us nerds. More comic books were turned into movies and for the most part, they were pretty good. The high def war finally ended with Blu-ray knocking out HD and consumers finally had the confidence to go Blu. Last but not least, video games are more popular than ever. Here’s our look at the best and worst of ’08.…

 

How fitting that this Resident Evil movie is called Degeneration, because that’s what I think about the CG animation in this movie. Fans of the game will enjoy this, but the CG animation and the voice acting really put a damper in a movie that’s just another rehash of an “unknown infestation spreads while our heroes have to stop the evil corporation” storyline; only this time, it starts out at an airport. Didn’t I see this in Flight of the Living Dead?…

 

Wow, what an event! Most of the fighters I was rooting for lost, and a new light-heavyweight champion was crowned. I will only write about the 3 fights that were significant to the rankings of the UFC.

Let’s start with the Wanderlei Silva fight. He fought Quenton “Rampage” Jackson for the third time. Silva knocked Jackson out twice before, but not this time. Jackson had other plans, it was called the left hook. The massive left hook from Jackson took Silva out late in the first round. Silva flopped backwards, and Jackson delivered 3 more blows before the referee stepped in. …

I had little knowledge about this movie before its release. Once I found out that it was directed by David Fincher and was based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I got excited. This would also be the third time that Brad Pitt and David Fincher would be working together. I’m not much of a bookworm, but since it was based on the short story, I had enough time to read it before the movie came out. Here comes another big event for the UFC. It showcases some new talent and the 3rd rematch between Jackson and Silva. So, here are my predictions.

Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans – This one is hard to call. Both fighters came from the Ultimate Fighter show, and now they’re fighting for the belt. Evans is a solid fighter, but never been tested until he defeated the former champ in Chuck Liddell. Griffin has more fights against experienced fighters under his belt, like his wins against Shogun Rua and Quentin “Rampage” Jackson. I pick Griffin to win this due to experience and …

While Call of Duty 4 was set in present day, Activision decided to go back to the Word War 2 era for its 5th installment.  While the games has some flaws,  I must say I was surprised how much I enjoyed the game. More after the jump.…

 

I knew nothing about this movie coming in for the world premiere. It was a chance for me to meet Uwe Boll for a Q&A before the movie. I was disappointed to find out that he was doing the Q&A via a webcam. The event was being held at Downtown Independent, which was holding an Uwe Boll festival, a two-day marathon of his works including Far Cry, Postal, BloodRayne and Alone in the Dark.

I meant to review Sex Drive months ago when I first saw it, but it came and went so fast I totally forgot to do so at the time.  I saw Sex Drive near the end of its theatrical run after some high praise and recommendations from people who had already seen it but still didn’t expect much from it.  It looked like a run of the mill teen sex comedy to me, and it many ways it really is.  The plotting (stolen right from Eurotrip/Road Trip) is nothing special, and even some of the characters are based on other characters …

Attended the blu ray community screening for the Dark Knight where Christopher Nolan was answering questions from the fans. To tell you the truth, most questions could have been answered by watching the behind the scenes featurettes. Some questions had obvious answers such as:

“Why do you think Ledger’s performance as the Joker is so beloved by critics and fans alike”
and

“How was it shooting in Chicago”

The Xbox 360 is turning out to be a mess.  There’s several problems with the console: red ring of death, noisy fan, maps not loading.  Now, the latest known problem: scratching DVD games and movies.  Most of you are aware that I had to return my 360 four times before finally getting one that was working properly.
