Centurion 1 Movie Review: Centurion

Neil Marshall is a B-movie expert who has quite the cult following after directing the horror hits Dog Soldiers and The Descent. His last movie was a fun, trashy ode to The Road Warrior called Doomsday and he follows it up with a hack and slash classic called Centurion. Centurion is a gritty, gorgeously mounted action picture about a group of Roman soldiers being hunted by a tribe of nasty Picts led by a vengeful, mute warrior woman. The grimy gore meshes seamlessly with the striking and bleak cinematography of a harsh and unforgiving landscape. The excellent and charismatic Michael Fassbender …

Greg Pic 11 300x300 Interview with Greetings From The Shore Writer/Director Greg Chwerchak

I recently had the chance to interview the co-writer and director of Greetings From The Shore. Greetings From The Shore is a heartfelt and funny movie I saw a few years back that is now available on DVD. Thanks to Greg for his time and thoughtful answers:

NERDSociety (NS): Greg, Tell our readers a little about yourself. How did you get into directing feature films ?

Greg Chwerchak (GC): I started in the industry as a writer, writing hundreds and hundreds of concepts for music videos. I grew up as a big comics geek, so to suddenly be creating ideas with …

Black Rock Shooter Action Figure Review!

Black Rock Shooter Action Figure Review!

After 4 months of waiting for my pre-order to come to me, I FINALLY have the Black Rock Shooter, Figma, action figure! This figure is absolutely amazing, for being made in China the quality is top notch. The detail throughout the figure is that of a hand painted statue, which is what I compare this figure to. With too many points of articulation to list, Black Rock Shooter can be posed almost endlessly. In regard to the articulation, moving parts include the normal arms, legs and head; followed by her pony tails, bottom of her coat and even her stands are …

Movie Review: The Expendables

Expendables 1 Movie Review: The Expendables

The Expendables is a throwback to the mindless 80s big budget action movies that I grew up watching. Sly Stallone has assembled a massive group of action stars (past and present) and tossed them into a stew of macho ultraviolence. The Expendables delivers the goods and I have high hopes that the sequel will be even better. Stallone’s cast includes a magnetic Dolph Lundgren (as the requiste loose cannon), Jet Li, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis (in an amusing cameo with Ahnold himself), and Mickey Rourke as a weirdo tattoo artist who goes method about loving and losing women and gives an …

Blu Ray Review: Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season

Smallville Season 9 cover Blu Ray Review: Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season
Release Date: September 7, 2010
MSRP: $69.98

The popular television series Smallville enters its tenth and final season in a few weeks when it finally returns to The CW every Friday at 8pm. Season nine was one of the series best seasons in years and the series looks spectacular on blu ray. The episodes are sharp and clear and the audio is excellent. Season nine saw the series change course as Clark Kent (played by the underrated Tom Welling) began wearing a prototype costume, start to develop feelings for Lois Lane, and generally take major steps towards becoming the hero he …

CNN Experience Seen Through a Nerd’s Eyes

cnn CNN Experience Seen Through a Nerds Eyes

NERDSociety was featured on CNN last Thursday but since a lot of you guys have been wondering what the experience was like, I thought I’d share it with you.  As well as the items I brought for the interview:

So two Friday’s ago, I got an e-mail from CNN producer JD regarding nerd power in Hollywood. What caught his attention about NERDSociety was the poll on the homepage regarding movies. The poll was CCFMDS (my longtime friend and writer) idea from the very beginning, so thanks to him for that! I called back JD and we discussed what nerd culture was …

Scott Pilgrim1 Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is the movie I’ve been waiting forever for. It’s like the best videogame flick ever made, but it’s based on a series of graphic novels and not a videogame. The movie is brilliantly brought to life by director Edgar Wright. Wright previously made the very funny parody movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Scott Pilgrim is his best film yet. A hyperactive flick that moves like a bullet and features sharp acting and dialogue and even sharper ADD editing and jump cuts. The effects are also fun and the fight scenes and hipster music …

Chat With Batman Sculptor – Jim McPherson

batman002aLo Chat With Batman Sculptor Jim McPherson

Talented sculptor, Jim McPherson, has been in the entertainment industry for 20 years.  He has worked on hit films such as Alice In Wonderland and Gremlins 2 and worked with make up artist legend, Rick Baker.  While he works on plenty of movies, I was surprised that McPherson also sculpted a Batman: Black and White statue.  McPherson created the “Batman: Year One” statue based on Frank Miller’s story and David Mazzuchelli’s art.  “Year One” is my most beloved Batman story and “Black and White” is my favorite statue line, so I had to contact McPherson about the statue and …
