NERDSociety.com joins the Flynn Lives rally in preparation to overtake the Encom Press Conference in San Francisco during WonderCon 2010. I thought I was a big Spawn collector until Charlie showed me his collection.  I was amazed with his display because it seems like he has all the figures!  Besides the toys, he also has trading cards, movies, rare exclusive and a standee.  Now, that’s hardcore.  It put my Spawn collection to shame. Wrestling giant WWE and trading card giant Topps came together to produce a fun game called WWE Slam Attax that should please wresling fans, especially younger ones. The game is quite easy to play and the cards are impressive as two players go head to head. The game is already a massive hit in Europe and I expect the same here in the US. There are a total of 186 cards to collect that include 130 game cards, 16 champion cards, 19 finishing move cards, 11 title cards, and 10 prop cards. Zoe Saldana has been on the nerds’ radar ever since she played the iconic Nyuta Uhura in last year’s Star Trek.  She followed up that role by starring in the world’s biggest movie of all time, Avatar.  I thought her acting in Avatar deserved an Oscar nomination.  Her cat like mannerisms combined with her human emotions really brought the character to life.  But I guess the Oscars’ doesn’t reward actors who are motion captured.  Maybe when they make a sequel, she’ll get nominated then!

The newly blonde Nicolas Cage (Con Air, Ghost Rider) and the cast and crew of Sorcerer’s Apprentice was at WonderCon talking about the upcoming summer blockbuster.  The live action movie is based on a musical sequence from the Walt Disney animation classic, Fantasia.  Cage said he took the lead role because it’s a “movie that adults will enjoy as much as the kids.”  Another reason was his love for Walt Disney, “I’m honored I work with the  Disney studio.  I like to call him Uncle Walt.  It’s a dream come true working for a studio I looked up to.”

Photographer Dina Goldstein caused an internet sensation with her project,  ‘Fallen Princesses’ .  The project consisted of fairy tale princesses set in today’s real world.  Members from social sites like digg and stumbleupon embraced the photo series and shared it with the internet communty.  Today the word of mouth from the project is still going strong, if you search for ‘Fallen Princesses’ on google, nearly 4 million results show up.

Jake Gyllenhaal and the Prince of Persia cast was making the rounds at WonderCon, hoping they would break a Hollywood curse:  bad video game movies.

Street Fighter, Double Dragon and Super Mario are video game movies that I would like to forget.  What makes these movies so bad are the stories.  What works in a video game doesn’t usually translate well into the big screen.
