The popular rental company, Netflix, announced today that they will be offerring a streaming ONLY service for $7.99.  The service will let you watch streaming movies on your pc, tv (with a Netflix Box) and console (PS3, WII, Xbox 360).  You can watch hi def movies with the service but that depends how fast your internet connection is.  I used to have DSL at 1.5 mbps and that gave me “standard” quality.  I swithched to cable and the speed is 10mbps, I get “X-high” to high def titles, which is the best.

Blu-ray Review: Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition

Blu-ray Review: Avatar Extended Collector’s Edition

Avatar Extended Collectors Edition artwork2 Blu ray Review: Avatar Extended Collectors Edition

With Avatar’s theatrical cut, you got a movie with great CG and a predictable story.  It reminded me too much of Last Samurai, including the love story and side characters.   While it was entertaining, I was disappointed with it because director James Cameron can do so much better.  This is the man that made you root for a robot in Terminator 2 for crying out loud. A ROBOT!   Cameron admitted that some scenes were cut from the theatrical release for pacing reasons and it would be available on Blu-Ray.  Well that time has come and 20th Century Fox released the extended …

elf collectors Blu ray Ultimate Collectors Edition Review: Elf

Elf (directed by Jon Favreau) is a story about a human named Buddy (Will Farrell) raised by Elves. He decides to look for his father (James Caan), but is disappointed when his father turns out to be a total workaholic. Along the way, Buddy meets some interesting people including the fake Santa played by Artie Lange, and an “elf” at his father’s office meeting. This is a Christmas movie, and has something for both adults and kids, but more-so for the adults.

Video – The video quality is good, actually it’s better than I expected since it’s a comedy. For …

Blu-Ray Review: Ichi (2008)

ichi 2008 jap cielo img 218510 Blu Ray Review: Ichi (2008)

Following the tradition of the Zatoichi: Blind Swordsman series, Ichi flips the story by centering around a blind swordswoman.  Haruka Ayase plays Ichi, a very unobtrusive, wandering goze.  The goze were blind musicians who played a stringed instrument called the samisen and offered live performances in exchange for room and board.  Her sword is hidden in her walking stick and most of the brutal jerkwads she meets up with have no idea who they’re messing with. Ichi is also a very talented and unusual swordfighter.  Her biggest rival is the cartoonish yakuza Banki-to (probably the worst part of the …

NElNounlk9xhoo 1 2 Blu Ray Review: A Prophet (Un Prophete) 2009

Director Jacques Audiard has created an incredible mafia masterpeice.  A Prophet (not to be confused with Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet) follows nineteen-year-old Arab Malik El Djebena’s rise within the ranks of a French prison where he is originally sentenced for six years.  El Djebena quickly falls in with the Corsican mafia at the prison and using his wit and incredible survival instincts, not only survives there but thrives.  His mentor/tormentor, mafia kingpin Cesar Luciani is El Djebena’s grudging father-figure in prison, under whose inadvertent tutelage he learns how to get ahead in this vicious and ruthless world of cash, hash and …

alien Sigourney Weaver’s Alien Screen Test

The Alien Anthology is being released today and 20th Century Fox released the footage of Sigourney Weaver’s screen test.  As we all know, Weaver’s performance as Ripley broke new grounds in Hollywood.  Ripley was one of the first female characters to kick ass and this trend continued to horror movies such as Friday The 13th and Scream.

Here’s the trailer for the box set, now I want to buy this damn box set:

Here’s what the box set:

Oceans Blu Ray Blu ray Review: Oceans (Disneynature)

Disneynature does it again with the hypnotic and visually stunning new nature documentary called Oceans. Last Earth Day, Disney released Earth, which was terrific, but was mostly footage from Planet Earth edited down to feature-length. Disneynature got Oceans from France and director Jacques Perrin. Perin made the justly beloved documentary Winged Migration and Oceans is a spectacular sight to behold.

Oceans is narrated in mostly unobtrusive fashion by Pierce Brosnan and takes the viewers on a fascinating journey under the sea to see all kinds of bizarre creatures along with some favorites (sharks, seals, cute baby sea turtles). The movie has …

Back To The Future: Without Michael J. Fox?

Back To The Future: Without Michael J. Fox?

backtothefuture Back To The Future: Without Michael J. Fox?

That’s how it would’ve been if director, Robert Zemeckis, decided to keep Eric Stoltz to play the role of Marty McFly. They’ve shot for five weeks, and decided that Stoltz wasn’t right for the role because he was too serious.

Clip:

Based on the clip, they made the right direction. With Eric Stoltz’s serious acting, the humor feels a little damp. The footage with Stoltz was never seen before until now for the Blu-ray release of the trilogy. It comes out Oct 26th, you can pre-order it here.
